Warwick Relays 2016
Four teams from Leicester competed in the 2016 Warwick relays despite Le Grezzzzlys best efforts to divert one of the cars and Frances signing up people who were in different cities at the time.
The mens team was started by Chris Parkes-Bowen who very eagerly stepped in on the day to race. He put in a great leg spurred on by the thought of a late call up to the old boys mens team for the road relays. He then handed over to Rob who lost the mandatory odds on in a thrilling contest and had to wear the furry hat for the race. Tom ran a cracking leg in third, and Dan finished the race, hungover as always. They finished in a brilliant fourth place out of the mens teams! Rumours of doping in the top three teams may lead to a medal when samples are retested.
The first mixed team had Le Grezzzzzley leading them off with a smashing start, however you will be disappointed to hear he was the only member of his team to not have been out the night before. We are still trying to work out if it is the real Le Grezzzzzly. He passed over to DABie, while attempting to run over the team next to her in an effort to gain places, who ran a stonking leg. James, post his Birthday night out, ran an inspired leg and handed over to Frances to finish off a wonderful team effort. The team finished agonisingly closely behind the fourth and third team, coming in fifth.
The second mixed team featured a new member to the club, Zheng, who ran a fantastic first leg on his debut for the club. Grace and Katie both put in great performances on the second and third legs, and George had a strong finish using his sprint training with lots of cheering from the rest of Leicester, coming in seventh.
There was another great team performance in the womans race which included Laura leading the way, followed by Harriet and finished off by Zahra, another new member of the club making a great debut. Another team coming in seventh.
The day was marred however with Frances being the true fastest female on the day and being denied the honour of meeting the weight lifters. Two cars got lost on the way home, with Tom Pownall's car taking approximately 3 hours to complete the 50 minute journey back, taking a scenic route through the slums of Coventry and going the wrong way down the M69 for a spell, mainly thanks some poor navigational work from Le Grezzzzzly. A good day and a massive well done to everyone who competed!
